I was browsing through some of my old sketches and I noticed this one. I can't really remember what I was thinking of when I drew this, but I thought, hmmm... this could be a good starting point to play with ideas. I really need to do this more often to kick start some creative process in my head. I've been feeling so stagnant for some time now and I'm starting to think the reason for that is that I stopped sketching. I removed it from my system without even noticing it. I knew there was somthing missing, I knew there was something wrong. But never knew it was the lack of self expression. I hope this theory is true, but it will remain just a theory unless I do something about it.
I'm gonna take this one step at a time, slowy but surely. Wish me luck!

A post finally, in two full years!!! I've almost forgotten about this blog site to be quite honest. Never found the time to make any post. ...or just being lazy? Well, I have to admit there was a lot of that too. But hopefully this is a sign of change. I still can't believe it's been two already.

These are some of my attempts to draw Doc Savage. Don't know much of this character but thought it was interesting to design him. ...and no, I don't like the way I drew his hands. We'll see how this design progresses. I need to do more research about this dude.

I still felt lazy so I thought I'd just snap a picture of my drawings :D

This is my attempt to draw the female image --my weak spot! I always find myself drawing villainous male characters and now I know why. They are much easier to draw. This will be the next challenge I shall tackle, the woman's most delicate curves.

These photos were taken on my last visit to the Philippines almost two years ago. I took these shoots with my Minolta DiMage S414 4.0 meg point-and-shoot camera. The camera didn't last that long, but at least I got these babies out of it. Looking forward to visiting Bohol again, but who knows when that's gonna happen. So many shooting opportunities missed. But what can I say, it's hard to pass up siestas in a place like this.

This was taken from our studio window. I changed the colour in photoshop. Since it was a cloudy day, I figured it didn't need its original colour. But I'm not sure if I used the right colour. Blues and greys perhaps? Comments are always welcome here.

Wow! it's been quite a while since I've posted something here! It's been a little crazy for me since I've moved here (Toronto) from Ottawa. I've started this blogging thing to encourage myself to get back into drawing again, since the last job I had involved less of it. And now that I actually do draw for work, I'd like to pay attention to something that I've been so eager continue pursuing; photography. Hehe, don't get me wrong, I'm a pure novice. Every shot is experimental, and it still takes quite a while for me to mix the right camera settings for a certain scene. But I guess that's the adventure of putting your camera on "M" mode.
This first of many photos to come is not necessarily the first shot I took with my new camera, but rather my first experience of the West Indian Chicken Roti my officemates were raving about. And boy was it ever good! Though after half an hour of having it, I swear I though I was shot with a tranquilizer gun. It took me two Red Bulls to wake me up before I drove to Ottawa that after noon.

holy! has it been that long? well i've been kinda busy, and this is what i've been workin' on lately. i've been assigned to help out on the pre-production for our next dvd product. i have to say this is quite challenging having to do layouts and location shots. the last time i did this was back in college and never liked it since i've always been a character guy. it's a funny thing though, i'm kinda liking the challenge now. hopefully this would help out my storytelling skills. here's one of the quick sketches i did.

A discussion about the history of computer animation and how it all began. Held at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, California, the discussion was moderated by Michael Rubin. Within the panel are Dr. Ed Catmull, Alvy Ray Smith, Andrew Stanton and Brad Bird. Watch the video (151 MB)to know who these people are and how important they are to the animation/film industry. They're a bunch of very passionate people with only one goal; to tell good stories and so far they are the best in the planet, bar none!

Slowly, this guy is becoming more real! Gaetan has put textures on this version but he's not done yet he says. I just thought I'd post it coz it already looks good to me. Right now I'm working on the character's facial expressions on paper so Mr. Gaetan will have a reference for making "morph targets" (ooohhh! fancy 3d talk). Click on the image so you can view the turnaround of the character. Man, I can't wait to animate this sucker. It'll be quite a challenge with all those controls Gaetan has put on this character. And the textures!!! I just hope I'll do justice.

I stumbled upon this on an article at CartoonBrew.com just last week while browsing the net. I knew there was something familiar about this image! Simon Paquete (a very talented young lad) and I served as animators for this demo almost a year ago before I left Mercury Filmworks. Created by Theodore "Dr. Seuss" Geisel, the original short film won an Oscar Award in 1950 for best short subject and became an animated classic. The very reason why we were so excited at Mercury when we heard that we were making the revival show here in Ottawa. I'm already hearing a lot of good things about the show. Can't wait to see it on the small screen, that's if Teletoon or YTV will get it for the canadian audience! I'm grateful to have worked on it even for the shortest time. Best of luck to the show!
